Smith, Warner, Bancroft all have had press conferences back in Aus. Lehmann had done a presser in SA and now resigned effective at the end of the 4th Test. Lots of journos saying Warner had gone rogue and would start finger pointing at the "real" guilty parties. At his presser, he just said he took responsibility for "his actions", said sorry a lot, and cried. Interesting to see Kane Williamson provide some support for Smith, covering their relationship as opponents and also teammates at Sunrisers, saying what a nice guy he is and this seems very out of character. Michael Vaughn wrote in support of Lehmann saying what a nice bloke he is and that he didn't think he would be involved in planning to cheat. Vaughn has got it in for Warner though... |

bp666, when I posted Warner hadn't given his press conference. I've just seen it just now. It was him I was referring to and while he kept saying that he was there to take full responsibility for "his part" but he wouldn't say what his part was despite meny questions from the press. I think he was the man responsible.
This is a man who runs the length of the field to give an opposing batsman "the send off" a man who picks fights with the young touring players (Root for example) He is a man who wants to win (no problem with that I did when I played) but to win at all costs....I'm not so sure. Having said that he is a fabulous Cricketer, and for him not to play at the level he should play at is really sad, but I won't miss him as a person. Steve Smith said it for me. Cricket is the best game in the world, and Cricket is the loser here. Some time ago I commented on how brilliant it was when New Zealand visited the UK under Brendon McCullom. The Cricket was superb, and the spirit it was played under was even better. I cannot hand on heart say that when we play Australia.

Agree with Buttsie that CA have gagged the players.
Read an article this morning that said Bancroft used the sandpaper twice, in that 20 odd overs. Feck me, what a way for our best two batsmen and a promising opener to get the boot for long stretches (and in Warner's case probably forever). |

Do you know what I like about the punishment?
It ends prior to the World Cup and Ashes! |

One thing to note about McCullum is that he has his own dark history. He reported his ex-teammate Chris Cairns for approaching him with a match-fixing offer to the ICC. The problem here is that he said the approach happened in 2008, but he reported it 3 years later in 2011. The only reason he has given is "it's not easy 'ratting' on someone I regarded as a mate". While there is no suggestion McCullum himself was involved in any match-fixing, the ICC view those who do not report match-fixing information to them a very serious manner, and as guilty as the match-fixer themselves. McCullum knew these rules and deliberately broke them. No sanction was ever passed on him over this. He did bring a breath of fresh air into the NZ XI and appears to have otherwise acted mostly with fair and respectful behaviour in cricket (the Murali stumping notwithstanding). |

All 13 England wickets in the match thus far have been taken by Boult or Southee. All 10 NZ wickets have been taken by Anderson or Broad.
Both teams seem to have the same glaring problem - a lack of depth in their bowling. .
