Minors are legally and intellectually unable to give consent. One only has to consider a daughter niece or sister etc. in her place to realize Weiner's sexting is a violent attack upon her; aggravated by his age (around 50).

People like him (and the 15yr old was not his only victim) should be jailed as the violent criminal predators predisposed to repeat offenses they are.

How do you define violence?

Violence is not just physical and direct. Consider Enron, where thousands of employees and investors (plus their dependent families) lost their savings, medical insurance, and retirement 401k's. The actual harm to these people is both physically tangible and incalculable. The former CEO is serving 14 years.

Crime hurts people. Jailing at taxpayer expense serves to prevent them from causing further harm to others while in jail, and as a deterrent to those considering crime.

They are legally unable to give consent. But I've always hated the intellectually unable to give concept argument.

Can a minor consent to a religion? To firing weapons and hunting? To dangerous sport activities? To flying? To being a famous actor for a billion dollar company? To doing commercials and selling products or services, To being in Daddy's political ads?

Age of sexual consent is different in different countries, so you have that paradox too.

Sounds good to me, so why was he not held without bail the day the feds seized his computer and cellular devices, and why is he still walking around free with his phone in his hand outdoors after being convicted? Violence is violence, and a minor was involved.

Question. what would you consider a crime where it's not necessary to put someone behind bars at taxpayer expense given many people are given probation, heavy fines, community service for breaking the law? Enron would be a blatant example like Madoff.

Weiner still walks around with his phone and he still likely has home computer access, and after 21 months, he still can go purchase another device and do what he does behind closed doors. Until he pulled this garbage on a minor what he was doing was legal. He was getting invited to the DNC, appearing on Colbert to actual cheers, and on political shows.

How do we spend taxpayer money in a way here where it helps solve a problem because all we got right now is a debate where some want him to be sent to a place where he could be a target for violence vs the min security places?

I don't know.

Personal consumption drug offenses. We should set up much better rehab/job support etc. for those instead of jail. Also better and more available rehab for everyone. This is very important IMO.

That's too vague. How to easily cure pedophiles without sending them to jail, is that what you're asking? Don't think it can be done.

That's because the DNC and Colbert are composed of the same low moral fiber as Weiner.

I've seen some strange threads here on VEF but I never thought I'd see someone start a thread like this. SMH

As far as I am concerned, they could cut off Anthony Weiner's balls and weinie, and crush his head in a drill press without making the world poorer.

I'm a big Weiner headline fan.
My favorite is
"Jerk Off To Prison"
