Roger(no D incidentally) also hates guns, he said as such in an interview for the TVTimes back then but no one is doubting his suave and sophisticatedness as Bond and let's face it he pulled Barbara, Britt and Maud amongst others A lot of people found the jokey style a bit much which really came to a head in 'Octopussy'. The "sit!" command to a tiger was funny but not many people got the joke(based on an instruction by the late Barbara Woodhouse, a dog trainer with unusual methods) and it wasn't wanted in the film. Incidentally I still can't watch poor old Vejay Amritraj getting cut in half by that saw-toothed yo-yo although that is always cut when shown on television. Didn't do his reputation any harm.

Bit off topic, but watching the movie on Sunday, I was struck by
the hi tech of the studios... (studios specially built for the Bond movies I guess ...)
but I thought, a lot of this hi tech could go into making one fantastic
Sci Fi movie,
Did the Bond studios ever have a go at a sci fi ?

i was thinking the exact opposite while watching the scene in TMWTGG last week... thinking how weak the supposed graphic tracking display of bond's plane while looking for scaramanga/miss goodnight, somewhere in the red china sea....... the technology these days would be far more worthy of the fleming stories...... i recall that in the recent CR, craig's sony phone (i have the same model) had brilliant tracking graphics, making this plane's ones look even worse......

but speilberg has been asked to remake Jaws many times... but he says it will never happen in his lifetime..... he prefers to leave it as it was made.... a classic.... cant argue with the man i suppose... he is the true genius of his era. (as hitchcock was of his)

I think Alien was filmed at the Albert R Broccoli 007 sound stage as well as Superman II that's pretty sci-fi wouldn't you say. The stage was the largest in Europe at the time(may well still be) and was improved to my mind tenfold. Most unusual for it to burn down twice in its lifetime but again it survived and like a phoenix rose from the ashes to make more Bond films. Moonraker's main space sequences were shot in France btw.

IN the game for the Wii Goldeneye it can hack into drone guns, open doors and override alarm systems. Remember in 'Tomorrow Never Dies' Brosnan used his phone to drive his hire car about Brent Cross shopping centre-oops I mean Germany A sort of satnav before we got them.

I guess that Cubby Broccoli must have been the major force in
getting the Bond movies on the screen .. Im not that well up on
the Bond history, but Ive noticed so often an obsession with water,
pools full of sharks and pyrana...etc, cars that turn into submarines...
water and the sea loom large in lots of Bond movies,
I wonder was it Cubby who had this fascination
and gave this theme to so many Bond movies ?

Yes true some Bond movies featured water but then again you could add snow and the obligatory sight gags ( Moore opens window of Lotus and drops a fish out in TSWLMe) there was a formula and it was probably a case of if it works, keep doing it. Not many cars did transformations like the Lotus, offhand the only other one I can think of was Scaramanga's car that transformed into a plane in TMWTGGun and that stretched credibility whereas you could believe a car would become a submarine-of course it was clever editing and use of models small and large thanks to the brilliance of Derek Meddings(former Thunderbirds stalwart) and his last model making genius can be seen in 'Goldeneye'- he died before the film was released. The piranha and sharks just added to the menace of the villain-in reality sharks would not attack without some provocation and the piranha does not go mad and strip a man to bone in seconds-they are in fact placid creatures-but I still wouldn't put my hand in a tank of them I don't think it was Cubby remember he was drawing on the mind of Ian Fleming and nothing says danger more than sharks, piranhas, and spiders!

Just remembered this-Terrence Longden, very good actor and British stalwart of comedy and drama died this week but what made me read his obituary more was the fact that he was married to Barbara Jefford-now that name seemed to ring a bell and I was right, she used to dub Bond girls like Daniela Bianchi and Caroline Munro for the Bond movies along with Nikki van Zyl.

I just have a good recall of things, I don't want to come across as a know-it-all but while my memory is good I like to contribute to something I actually know and of course always willing to learn new things. Just seen some exciting news, a new game is being released towards the end of the year-whoo hoo!!

Was n't there a book written about . Fleming and the growing Bond cult etc
and the author said he had been writing the book on foolscap paper and he lifted the paper up to the lightbulb
and read the words........... Bond is Strong ... in the watermark !
