In this day and age of dross, crap and copied sh*te and (my pet-hate) re-makes, I've decided there should be a thread for re-activating long forgotten 'cult' films that didn't do so well the box-office at the time they were released.
One of the best has in the last couple of years being given the credit, re-editing and shown, whole in it's entirety, i.e. the way the director wanted it in the first place, before various d*ckhead's butcher'd it for misguided commercial reasons. Here's two to start with, that should be resurrected forthwith with the original amount of time in which the director envisaged: The Keep. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_9z9...eature=related Sorcerer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQ_KXK3eNdI Sorcerer starred the late-great and vastly underated Roy Scheider. Oh, and a stunning soundtrack by Tangerine Dream. They really don't have the balls to make films like this anymore/ Quote:

Er... you do realise that Sorceror was a remake of the classic 1953 French movie "Wages of Fear" Dir: Georges Clouzet starring Yves Montand (a much better film IMHO)
Although I totally agree with you about Roy Scheider - he never really got the credit he deserved. |

The Keep was part filmed in a quarry here in Wales, I have to say that its a damn fine film and very typical Michael Mann with its use of BIG music!

Going to see them on 1/4/2010 at the Royal Albert Hall. And you forgot ( ) Thief, also scored by TD and also a very good film. Wont someone release The Keep on DVD though, please! For those who haven't seen it, Wages of Fear mentioned by maxedout is well worth watching. How about Trust and The unbelievable truth, both Hal Hartley films from the early 1990s starring Adrienne Shelly (RIP). Had to wait around for ages to get DVD copies. |

Carnival of Souls is a goodie. The whole thing's like a dream. Very influential, IE, on David Lynch and George Romero. It was made by Herk Harvey, who (I think) was a car dealer. He never made any more films. The star was Candace Hilligoss.
(I think it may really be better known than I'm making out.) |
