Default Yale Lary November 24, 1930 - May 12, 2017

Detroit Lions great and Pro Football Hall of Famer Yale Lary died Friday morning, the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced. The former safety, who logged an 11-year career (1952-53, 1956-1964) that was interrupted by his service in the U.S. Army, was 86.

Lary was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979 after a career in which he was named All-NFL five times, voted to nine Pro Bowls and selected to the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 1950s.

Re Geoffrey Bayldon. He was quite sinister as the Crowman in Worzel Gummidge but I remember him in a small part as a toyshop owner in the 1971 film, 'Scrooge' starring Albert Finney(my favourite Scrooge adaptation) The look on his face when he realises it is Scrooge under the Father Christmas outfit is a picture. I also think he would have made a fine Doctor Who. All of us kids that watched Sunday afternoons on ITV Catweazle have lost a fine actor-although I didn't quite get the point of Catweazle because although he was a magician, he couldn't do any real magic in the 20th century.

Default Michael Dwayne Jackson (April 12, 1969 – May 12, 2017)

Former NFL wide receiver Michael Jackson, who played eight seasons with the Browns and Ravens in the 1990s, was killed in a motorcycle crash early Friday morning, Louisiana State Police confirmed to NFL.com. He was 48.

According to a Louisiana State Police news release, Jackson crashed into a car moving across lanes on U.S. Highway 51 in Tangipahoa, Louisiana, around 1 a.m. CDT.

The driver of the car, a 20-year-old woman, was reversing out of a parking space before the vehicle backed across lanes on the highway. Jackson was travelling "at a high rate of speed" when he hit the driver's side door and penetrated the vehicle. The driver of the car also was killed in the collision.

If I'm honest, I've never actually seen Catweazle before, but I have seen clips of it on TV, so I understood who the characters were and what the basic premise of the show was.

However, has a child I did watch Worzel Gummidge a few times, and remember him in that.
I think Worzel Gummidge is one of those shows that I don't think they could ever remake again, because that somewhat quaint, charming view of rural country life in England doesn't really exist like that anymore in the 21st Century.

This is bizarre. I just finished watching "The Hatfields And McCoys" with the wife tonight, logged on here; and this is the first thing I read!
Sixty eight is too young. I saw him first in "Extreme Prejudice" and have followed him ever since.
We have lost another one.
