This might sound retarded......but if VEF cannot implement any solution to avoid such mirroring (or somehow make it harder to mirror the content), is it somehow possible for VEF users to make posts in a such a way (without breaking VEF posting policy, naturally) that the content will look like '£$@35¤#%/¤#4€' (jibberish ) on the mirrored site? I have sadly avoided posting my scanned material on VEF for a while now (and keeping it strictly in my bl*g) due to the mirroring on that *BS* ero-forum
If the mirroring is passé, then I will enjoy posting my material on VEF again, for sure!

You could post with preview but without links, and say "PM me for links" (If that's ok with the rules here); then only give links to people you know and trust. If not ok you could share by PM to the trusted people, asking to please not post the material/links.
I did this a little in the past due to the very mirroring you mention. It was fun thinking about whoever lifted my stuff getting tons of pm's asking for the links. Otherwise if you post it publicly with links, it's out there for good and all. I've seen stuff I ripped and posted years ago on tube sites, at first it pissed me off a bit, but what am I gonna do, sue them for stuff I stole? This would be against the spirit of our rule which states all material must be freely available to all members. In this case the poster could pick and choose who he sent links to.

A Few Thoughts On Piracy ...
Dear Contributors,
yefy makes an interesting point: "...is it somehow possible for VEF users to make posts in a such a way (without breaking VEF posting policy, naturally) that the content will look like '£$@35¤#%/¤#4€'" There is such a method, it is called encryption. Encrypted data cannot be unlocked (made readable) without a key. I am no expert in encryption, 128bit keys were available when I trained as a programmer, but that was back in the 90s. Today, keys may be much more powerful. I am guessing website cloning isn't too hard with a bit of tech know-how, I won't mention how it's done here, as I'd like to echo what other VEF members have said: VEF members tend to go that extra mile, providing rare content, invaluable research and building a real community. It's what forums should be about, right? Regards NB |

Look on the bright side - when VEF is down, at least you can still view and download stuff. Just don't register!
On a serious note, I don't condone what these people are doing, but we can't stop it. See the main thread on this topic here: http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/sho...d.php?t=145006 regards 40+

Well there you go, can't do that here.
I learned to be Zen about it; I saw no real harm done to me since I didn't make money. It's actually a compliment if you squint your eyes a bit Sharing is better even among those who take advantage. |

The only way to stop auto-mirroring is to shut of "guest access" to the entire site. The owners will not do that as it generates traffic and brings new membership to the site when people use search engines to find content.
Sorry, but there really is not much we can do about this to be honest.

Considering where most of the material on VEF comes from, or that a good number of our esteemed fellow members taken someone else's posts and put them up elsewhere without attribution, thanks or whatever, isn't worrying about mirrors of the site sort of pointless?
I've mentioned seeing my scans (I know my own scans LOL) on other sites or within other posts on here and was told to "just let it go."

Another forum I used to post to was being mirrored like this. A number of the regular posters there began putting a line in all their content posts saying "This post was made on the XYZ forum. <link to the forum's main page>". I don't remember if it had any real effect which probably means it didn't have much effect. I think the offending site shut down after not too long.
