Trump has the opportunity to change the make up of the court system now with his judicial appointments. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/polit...cid=spartanntp This is the reason why so many conservatives held their nostrils shut and voted for him. The blustering buffoon can make his stupid tweets and screw what he wants, just make the damn courts conservative please. Fuck, I can even ignore his stupid trade war moves if he will get off his ass and fill the open positions with conservatives.

One man's conservative is another man's reactionary.

Allow me to elaborate. Justices Alioto, Gorsuch and Thomas are not conservatives. They are judicial activists with some pretty radical views about reinterpreting the founders' intent in writing our constitution. Roberts has often been just as bad. Many are former corporate lawyers, which has resulted in travesties like the Citizens United decision and other enormous expansions of the rights of corporations.

I was not a fan of Hollingsworth v. Perry but fear giving corporations, the Mercers, and the Koch brothers free reign to pursue their agenda of using their wealth to place themselves above the law, destroy any form of social safety net, break down the barriers of religious freedom, and place the entire onus of taxation on the working classes of the country. I recommend reading "The Case Against the Supreme Court" by Erwin Chemerinsky to get a more detailed presentation of the issues.

Poe tay toe - Poh tah toe - people have varied ways of seeing things.

There were plenty of articles prior to the election stating that the winner would be molding the courts for decades into the future.

I am not arguing that. I am saying be careful what you wish for, it may not be what you think you are getting.

Ask yourself this: Do you really trust Donald Trump to look out for your best interests?

There has to be a final say regarding law in the US or anarchy will reign. And yeah, the courts will probably side with the rich and powerful most of the time. They won't be perfect. But the Supreme court hasn't always sided with the ruling class.

Brown vs Board of Education wasn't in favor of the white segregationists. Gideon v. Wainwright gave the right of counsel to indigent defendants. New York Times v. Sullivan made lawsuits based on libel or defamation show intent or recklessness. Miranda v. Arizona needs no explanation. Loving v. Virginia was a surprise to me that it was only in the 60's that laws against interracial marriage were ruled unconstitutional. Roe v. Wade Giving a woman the right to choose stopped all those back alley abortions.

I don't want to see any of those cases changed, but I do want to see more conservatives on the courts.

And yeah, I hate Hillary. I hate Donald Trump, but given the choice, I chose Trump.

You do not support the right of gays to marry? I would have bet that you, like me, would be liberal enough to support the right of a person to marry who they want, as long as age and species requirements were acceptable.

I have a question.

Does Trump still control the military? I mean, I know he's commander-in-chief but I have the impression that he can not really prevail.

In name and title he does command the military.

I just hope if he goes off the deep end, they will either ignore him or put one thru his brain case.

Young and reckless? They were losing a genocidal war, just what in God's name would you expect from a people who are facing a racist genocidal enemy? Now, that's just how it was and probably still is throughout history, but do try to describe your ancestors actions for what they really were.
