IMO, I think there has to be something. I don't think we sprang out of rotten meat like maggots (which is a myth).

Well, i don't think anyone still believed that for a few centuries

But even if you believe there is something that created us/everything (which is fine by me), then that something must've come out of nothing as well, in a way we're just pushing the question one step further away, no?

And maybe our idea of nothing is wrong to begin with...

Saying there was a 'creator' doesn't answer the original 'creation' question regarding 'something out of nothing'. What or who then created the creator?

Something does exist which is now quite complicated - 'us' which evolved from something quite simple. (But if you don't even believe in evolution then rational discussion is totally pointless, Btw evolutionary theory does not say 'we sprang out of rotten meat like maggots'

In my opinion, you are missing the point. You make the 'monkey' assumption that you know what your talking about.

We are all, still hanging from a branch. We delude ourselves with our clever 'things' but we are still trying to kill everyone that is not 'us'. We spend the entirety of our lives trying to prove why we are better than others. We have no interest in others, unless we can dominate them. We are a reprehensible excuse for sentience...

Ah yes but... at the time, what you are describing as simple was the most complicated thing around.
But... complexity is not a given quality in evolution, too complex and it won't fit - indeed Occam's razor would suggest that the least complex that delivers the necessary fitness will be the most fit - I'm not practiced in developing those concepts but I think y'all will get what I'm getting at...
