Goldfinger is still the best there is just because it's so emblematic of Bond, what other movie is so cliché driven yet so enjoyable? Daniel Craig is great as a modern Bond though

Dr No
For those of you ~ old enough This was a general release film for anyone over 12 years old. It was actually groundbreaking for it's time. The "Hero" shot people in the back. He bonked a lot, and wasn't 'married' to any of the women, which at that time was a prerequisite. It was camp, pushed the envelope and the censors were sabotaged. OK it could be shown on kid's TV now - probably is - but it will explain just how severe UK censoship in the period was, for it to be a breakout and groundbreaking film Stay Safe Everyone |

I think... OHMSS just edges FRWL for me. Goldfinger is where the tropes all fall into place but Bond doesn't actually do all that much in the film - a fault that can be traced to the source material because he's a bit of a passenger in the book as well. Goldfinger is wildly entertaining though, as are all of Connery's even if he's phoning in Diamonds Are Forever. Moore... LALD and TSWLM are both great fun, FYEO was possibly the closest to Fleming we'd had at that time, though it sat uncomfortably with Moore. Worth saying that Moore did have a couple of very cold kills which he delivered well. Lobbing the chubby fella off the roof in Egypt and then kicking the car over the side in FYEO are just ice cold. I liked Dalton's two films and I liked Brosnan more than I liked his films. Goldeneye was great but the others all started well before deteriorating into shoot em up runarounds in the last hour. Die Another Day feels like bits of several films glued together by a diurector just hoping for the best. Daniel Craig... Casino Royale and Skyfall both very good, SPECTRE a step down from those and Quantum of Solace is just bobbins. It's boring.Bond faffing about with water rights? No thanks. It cost what? £200 million? It's the only Bond film where I can't see where the money went. The song was crap too IMHO. So... yeah... OHMSS for me please.
Of the unofficial ones... NSNA is livened up whe Barbara Carrera is on screen and Connery is very good. The villain is insipid though and Rowan Atkinson out of place. The 60s Casino Royale - bonkers fun if you're in the right mood and the 50s Casino Royale is an interesting curio. The BBC radio adaptations with Toby Stephens have mostly been very good. |

I totally agree those two are the best as they are closest to the original books, hell FRWL was listed in JFKs top ten books. But as I've eaten and skied down from Piz Gloria restaurant it's inevitable I'm drawn to that film.
Oddly though Piz Gloria in the book was set near St Moritz opposite Piz Languard above Pontresina. That roughly equates to the Diavolezza Glacier, and I've skied there as well. Cannot stand the current films, no style, just mind numbing, stupid, violence.

Another vote for Goldfinger; everything was in place, they'd hit their stride - good gadgets, great villain. Main disappointment is the underuse of the ejector seat, bit lame.
Casino Royale (Craig's) bump started the franchise in the era of Bourne, so will always be up there for me. I rather like Moonraker, even though it gets some derision. (Wish I'd bought the Airfix Moonraker Space Shuttle kit - they are worth a mint now). Worst for me? For Your Eyes Only. |

Nah Moores best IMO. Do your self a favour and buy the 5 short stories, Rissoco which supplied most of the plot for FYEO flim is brilliant.
