Aarrggh, me mateys! For me, piracy is just another form of quality testing.
If I download a pirated movie and I like it, I end up buying the commercial DVD on the assumption that it will be a better quality version of that movie. Likewise with music and CDs. With books, we're talking about erotica, since if I want to sample a mainstream book, I can go to the library to check it out before buying a copy. But since erotica, specifically porn, is not in the library, pirated ebooks are my best source to check out a book and an author. Since I'm old-school, if I like a particular ebook, I'll look for the paperback for the convenience of being able to stuff it in my back pocket as opposed to carrying around a Kindle or some other electronic device.
As such, the only movie producers, record producers and book publishers that are losing my business as a result of my piracy are those who turn out a sub-standard product. The pirated copy of their products get deleted from my computer as not worth the effort of keeping.
