I know the following isn't the same thing as working in porn but over the decades I've known quite a few women whose chosen career is nude figure modelling at art schools. It isn't particularly well paid and it's surprisingly hard work.

They've mostly been women who are comfortable with being publicly nude and have turned to the job as something that brings reasonable pay while needing few skills. Few of them were good-looking.

Imagine you were that type of girl and were fairly good-looking as well. When you think that until relatively recently working in Porn, soft or hard, brought a goodish income, often some degree of free international travel, and once a girl's name was made but her magazine and film work declining, she could use her fame to garner lots of work for amateur photographers and clubs to bring in a new income stream. porn was a good option for a woman hoping to make good money without years of education and training.

The fact that here in Europe some porn models, particularly soft porn models, become TV presenters and well-loved celebrities ,a classic example from the UK being Jo Guest, choosing porn as a way of getting on in life is or was until very recently quite rational for a young woman, particularly if her other options were unpleasant and low-paid dead-ends such as supermarket assistant or care assistant in a retirement home?

There is also the opportunity, as has been noted, of going into very lucrative high-class "escort" work once a girl has made her name. A few years of that and a young woman has paid for a nice little detached house, a nice little car, and has a grub-stake to set up a new business while she's still quite young. And if such was her inclination she's had lots of commitment-free sex into the bargain.

Keeping in mind that in the last couple of decades young women have become much more sexually adventurous than previous generations and much more at ease with porn, it's almost as valid to ask "why don't more girls go into porn?".

Back in the 90's I had a friend and work colleague who'd done nude figure modelling to earn extra money while she was at university. A very respectable and very attractive middle-class young woman, who had been a bit of a 'wild child' in her teens and was fairly uninhibited about nudity- she'd show her holiday pics around the office without bothering to take out the shots her boyfriend had taken of her topless on the beach, and more than one dinner party at her place ended with a drunken game of strip poker, or as we all lived in a seaside town, a late-night walk on the beach and skinny-dipping.

She also enjoyed a very uninhibited and occasionally promiscuous sex life- (the wife of one of my mates once said to me 'you and my husband must probably be the only ones of her male friends she hasn't slept with'. She was wrong- on both counts!) and during some of our nights drinking, she'd admitted to having had at least one threesome, and making a sex tape with her then boyfriend.

Given her lack of inhibitions about nudity and sex, if she hadn't been a middle-class graduate with a respectable professional career to follow (I haven't seen her for a while, as we now live at opposite ends of the country, but last I heard she was a senior manager for a well-known company), I do wonder whether without those career opportunities, she might have gone down the porn route instead- even when I worked with her, I half-expected that sooner or later I'd pick up the latest issue of Fiesta and find her in the Readers Wives pages...

Hey,

thanks for your input.

The girl mentioned in link you gave admitted that she was slutty and sexual curious teenager and that threw her into porn (in 80's if I remember). But she said also that nowadays she wouldn't have gone porn because it is so widespread via internet and your naked/sex pics may circulate in the web infinite.

Thats also may biggest concern; I may understand young slut, from pre-internet era ( 80's 90's) who wanna fuck in front of camera just for fun/money, but now you re on the eyes of the world. Already mentioned Jillian Janson's photos with her ass being fucked by couple of black cocks are easily find in the web. So how to live with such mementos in the era of ubiquitous web, smartfons, facebook, instagram, etc?

The op would be better served working out his hypocrisy instead of wondering why "normal" girls do porn.

I don't think the OP is being hypocritical, just asking why they do it, and how do they cope with any negative attention they may get when trying to lead a life outside porn.

Define the term "normal."

the irony is perhaps how the hundreds of gals who entered porn in the 70s and 80s now find once relatively safe images and film/video spattered (to use the apt term, maybe)all over the web. In my era, xxx theaters were it unless you ordered expensive Super8 film or bought a $500 VCR-then porn it home with your local video store (a room to the side usually). The web brought it out and imagine the horror of some (many-most?) to realize mom or gramma had "some explaning to do". I was curious why one recent poster who did Danish porn in that time, did tell her kids (I assume older teens-young adults). One wonders how Bridgette Monet, Jenene Swenson, Jessie st. James, Rachel Ashley, or anyone who senses it was a limited view reacted 15 to 30 years later as they appear easily on the web. I wonder how many panicked and how many were chill with it? I am a hypocrite to wonder and watch, but the risk-taking is at once fascinating and yet, how do women cross that line when so many do not (admittingly, never got even close to the line).

I caught a documentary on the iPlayer last week, "Jade: Why I Choose Porn". It followed a young woman who'd finished a fashion degree and chose to follow a career path in to hard core movies. I found it sad. It did nothing to change my mind that many women in the business are unhappy, tortured souls or disturbed.
I first felt this many years ago with documentaries about Lolo Ferarri and the PBTV series "Sex Under Hot Lights". Lolo didn't seem to be happy and many of the females featured in the PBTV series, many of them big names of their day, came across as very sad and lonely outside of work.
Is this a more modern phenomenon? It's hard to say as adult film actresses seldom appeared in documentaries. The only example I am aware of is the Ruby Wax documentary from sometime in the eighties. She spoke with Nina Hartley and another actresses who I've never been able to remember the name of. Both seemed perfectly happy with no hang ups.
Jade, in the BBC documentary, spoke about why she had chosen 'porn'. None of her statements seemed convincing and I'm not sure if Jade herself was actually convinced by them.
Am I hypocritical? Possibly, but I'm more interested in pre-video era movies when sex was fun and the women seemed more contented.

I never said that I am not hypocritical. Actually I am; I watch porn and also dont want my mother/wife/daughter there.

But I don't blame nor threat like subhuman people who are actors in such films.

True hypocrite is man who enjoys porn and equally despise porn actors.

I just wonder why some people are eager to break cultural norms and go to porn where they are prone to ostracism and social exclusion by people that are not so open about others choices (I think such people are majority of the society).
And modern communication technologies make harassment and stigmatisation much easier then before.

I would counter that by saying so are many men and women who have normal jobs. How many hate their job, their boss, their co-workers? Worse yet just getting by in life with much less pay.

Edit: BTW I saw a recent interview with a classic American porn star and she ran off a list of why girls go into porn. My favorite was, "To piss off their parents." LOL
