Default Welcome gers1960

Good stuff gers! But on your first Deb Jordan attempt, are her stockings really different colors? Nevertheless, it's difficult to do all that crosshatching for mesh stockings.
Are you in for the count? Are you working on the other DEB JORDAN FAN pictures? Let us know so we don't pick them up too.

Default Answer for blinky

@blinky - Hey, guy, welcome to our thread.
I'd love to say my judgement is perfect in picking colors, but really it is mostly guesswork. Unless someone who was there can tell you what they actually were, you're lucky to hit anything right. I've done a few old family photos where the people have all died, and no one else was there to report. The best thing to do is figure out what the era and location was, then pick shades that were popular at the time. You can tell something just by the relative darkness of different portions of the picture, but little else. Closest I've come is getting a close look at the eyes to tell if they're blue or darker. As an immediate example, a few years ago I colored a picture of Linda Gordon sitting in a chair. Yesterday I saw a color picture on this site taken in the same setting and everything was different. Because of darkness in those portion of the picture, I missed the fact that there were curtains around the window and I deliberately ommited the plant behind the chair because I couldn't tell where lower portions of it were located. Now it is possible in some cases to lighten up portions of a picture to determine those things, but I didn't make the effort in this case because that wasn't really the portion of the photo I was interested in. Below are both copies with an acknowledgement to 'viktor' for the true color version.
Note: despite the differences, I still like the one I did.

Amazing work here! If anyone has the time, I'd like to see the B&W pictures from Parade (and also the horribly coloured centrefold from Parade) in the first post here:

http://www.vintage-erotica-forum.com...oe-hendry.html

colourised nicely. The Mayfair and Club pictures on the same page show the proper colouring.

Respect to all

Big Grin Mae West and a question for svenbo

@gers1960 - I like what you did with Mae, well done. But I need to weigh in a bit on your choice of colors. I did consider doing this photo, and the only thought I gave to colors centered around the dress (I may yet do it for my own curriosity). Despite the extensive disclaimer above about selecting colors done for blinky1, there is another criteria I use. You chose blue for the dress, and it looks nice. But colors of clothing is often made based on the personality of the wearer. Blue and green are considered 'cool' colors and are typically chosen by calm, quiet, more laid back individuals. I don't think anyone who knows her would classify Miss West in that category. She was a hot, forceful, sultry person and would most likely chose hot colors such as red, orange or yellow. That's not a hard and fast rule, and especially someone in show business often doesn't make those decisions for themselves. The exact choice of shade make the decision interesting. Also, in a photo such as this, I'd tend to make the background colors more subdued(faded) to make the foreground stand out. I note your major colors for this pict to be red, white, and blue. Any significance there? Please contact me by private mail and let me know what you're doing so those choices don't bother the straights (chose 'User CP' from the top toolbar).
@svenbo - OK, I'll take your challenge. But since I'm not much in the know on this, please tell me which one is the centerfold you want changed?

Hi Demsal8 - my hero! The centrefold is the one at the end of this link:

http://img242.imagevenue.com/img.php..._123_515lo.jpg

Her chin is a weird colour, and she changes colour just above the navel - looks like two or more scans stitched together badly (not that I want to sound ungrateful to the OP)
