What is "woke"?
Seen it used as a term of abuse, or in a manner that could be described as abusive, but what actualy does it mean?

Leftist use it as...
Woke (/ˈwoʊk/ WOHK) is a term that originated in the United States, referring to a perceived awareness of issues that concern social justice and racial justice. It derives from the African-American Vernacular English expression stay woke, whose grammatical aspect refers to a continuing awareness of these issues. When it's used by conservatives or in a negative manner it can be used to refer to any kind of hostile far left/SJW-ish social agenda. Often focusing on race, racial victimhood or the intentional tearing down of iconic beloved figures or aspects of society that some loud minority group takes some specific issue with. Entertainment related example: Star Wars - The Last Jedi would be considered woke in a negative way because... - It intentionally tarnished one of the greatest white male heroes in cinema history with its handling of Luke Skywalker. - Demonizes capitalism with its pointless casino planet subplot. - Glorifies female characters for no earned reason beyond the fact that they are female & demonizes anyone who questions them (laura dern's character vs poe) - Lectures & demonizes heroism (luke talking shit about the Jedi order, poe's entire subplot) And no just having diversity or strong female characters does not automatically mean it's woke, it's all in the execution & message. Rogue One for example was fantastic and it had a very diverse cast & a female lead who were handled well. Look at this, the origin of a new Marvel heroine RirI Williams is her literally demanding to be oppressed so that she will have someone to spite. It don't mean shit
It's a term use by the right at times in a deroratory manner to describe their left progressive opponents, at times just as the prgressive left use fascits to desribe their opponenets on the right,at times

So it's basically being aware of social injustices.
How can this even be considered a bad thing? |

It has become the tag line for everyone who has taken offence at anything in the world: often having gone quite far out of their way to be offended. The underlying principle is not a bad thing, but the execution by the extremist minority has left the term tainted.

I don't get the "often having gone quite far out of their way to be offended" Surely if there is a social injustice, it shoyld be found and addressed? |

"Woke" is that they can now see things as they believe they should be, and that you are still asleep with your outdated ideals. For example Sir Winston Churchill's statues need to be removed / torn down because x, y or z and nothing to do with the fact that the only reason that they are allowed to be woke is because Churchill stood up against true fascists. But they know better because they have "woken" from the slumber that I am still living in. They are generally from middle class or better families, have some form of "White guilt", have been on the gravy train too long and have to much fecking time on their hands. |

Part of the problem of being "woke" is there are different types of "Woke".
eg.: David Icke wants us to wake up to the fact that we are all living in a matrix and nothing is real, and also that the world is controlled by a hidden govt. Or something. SJW's want us to wake up to the notion that all white society is evil and it's 'cos whites are all born racist, (see "Why I no longer talk to white people about race"), and that consequently we should feel guilty/shame about being white. The very far right (not in the US politics type of "far right") wants us to wake up to the idea that one very tiny minority, all of whom belong to one particular religion, control the world. ETC. Consequently, lots of "woke" people are actually "not really woke, but think they are" and are thus ignorant of the real state of the world and what's going on in it. Of course, who the "woke" are and who the "not woke, but..." are, depends entirely on the individual viewpoint of the person observing them.
