Pixhost is crapping out this afternoon when I tried uploading 52 images to a new gallery. Only 3 end up in the gallery -- the 1st, 6th, and 22nd!
After trying a number of times I am giving up for now. I did send Pixhost an email reporting the problem though. As for the other guys -- Img* and Image*. I don't like them because their web page, image viewing apparatus is rubbish. It results in way too many images that load extraordinarily slowly, if at all. |

I was just able to upload a batch of 93, a batch of 82 and a batch of 66 images to PixHost without any apparent issue.

What's curious is that I also saw a few other posts that included large Pixhost galleries. Of course, they might have created those much earlier than when there were posted, though I doubt it. Last edited by geemahn; January 13th, 2024 at 04:05 PM.. |

Occasionally when pixhost is struggling to load an image, you can see that it's waiting for Google analytics. No status information is displayed when imagevenue's image loader is spinning. |

It seems fine now but I was getting a lot of ''we're sorry. something's wrong'' from imgbox last night. It made me wonder why I use it, and it's really only because I'm a creature of habit. I never even heard of it before I started posting here. But I had to choose one and that's the one I chose. I use it because it's the one I use.

Below is a current example of pixhost misbehavior. I watch its upload page while all 32 JPEG images are "successfully" uploaded, but only 1 of them gets stored!
Earlier today I switched to imagevenue by which I was able to upload two batches of files, but it now stalls on the third batch after reaching either 4% or 15% of the files to be uploaded. I've tried 6-8 times. Very, very frustrating. Last edited by geemahn; January 16th, 2024 at 09:48 PM.. Reason: inserted "JPEG" for clarity |

Geemahn, it sounds like there is an issue with your PC or ISP. Have you tried clearing your cache and/or rebooting? I know we all hate hearing those suggested but they are a starting point for finding potential issues.

Well, I've cleared pixhost cookies and turned off BitDefender--it didn't change the misbehavior.
So, I decided to just upload 10 JPEG images to pixhost, which dutifully reported their successful upload progress. Here was the resulting gallery: Yes, 0 images in the gallery! Then tried 5 JPEG images which got the same empty gallery result. (Note that the screenshot above uploaded successfully to pixhost. Hmmn.) These JPEG images were created by Preview from JPEG2000 images, so I'm now beginning to suspect that the JPEG file contents are the problem. Will try an another experiment later. Pixhost
I just did a test upload to pixhost and had no issue, apart from a split second delay after the upload before the images appeared.
Here's the Gallery, which are jpg files

Reason: clarified these are jpg so they are not the issue. See also post 3551 |

Invalid JPEGs Cause Pixhost to Choke
Ok, I just proved that it is indeed the JPG files' content that are causing pixhost to choke.
Proof. Photoshop reports this error when trying to open one of these files: How did I get here? Found a few collections of JPEG2000 scans, but JPEG2000, which provides better compression than regular JPG, is not well supported by all applications. For example, pixhost does not accept them. So, I used Apple Preview to batch convert JPEG2000 files to JPEG format. Seemed to work fine. It worked until it didn't, first with pixhost and then apparently imagevenue as well. FWIW a few months ago also I ran into JPEG2000 image viewing problems with Apple software. So, there are at least 2 JPEG2000 bugs in their software. So, what's next? I will find a different application to convert these JPEG2000 files. |
