Bikini contests 80's/90's

Administrative/Biographical History:

It’s hard to find any information on ERI Productions online. All I could locate are those old advertisements for this series we've seen before. But they must have obviously specialized in producing videos covering bikini contests, models and apparently they also sold related merchandise such as posters. After the end of this video there are two advertisements. One features Brooke Thompson advertising a 1-900 number where apparently you could talk to her other girls from these contests. Another ad promotes other ERI videos featuring prominent 80s models such as Becky LeBeau. So the people behind this company in Studio City, CA capitalized on the rise of the bikini contest circuit in the 80s and how that fed into nude modeling, softcore videos, and the great T&A exploitation films of that era. I imagine most of these contestants hoped to parlay their time in these contests into modeling for publications like Playboy or to get some type of break into the film or television industry. But why bikini contests really exploded as they did beginning in the 1980s is a discussion for later. They existed long before, but really as business demonstrated by the work of ERI Productions is something I’d like to know more about. Maybe as the bikinis got smaller, a return to more feminine attitudes by Lost Generation women (post-Baby Boomers, pre-Gen X), and rise in the growth of outlets (videos, posters, magazines, cable TV) to capitalize on them all contributed to a perfect storm.

The date for this video is hard to determine. The entire series lists the contests in a range from 1985-1990. I’d assume the first two contests were at least 1985. And this one is mentioned as a finals round as was #1. This edition features almost the entire line-up from #1 with the exception of Monique Gabrielle, Leslee Bremmer, Karen and maybe one other. During the contest Gary also mentions they had a first round involving workout attire; as seen CBGC #15, part 1. They must have done that for all contests. But too bad they only recorded for #15.

Overall, I would rate this entry pretty low. I did think the line-up of girls was fairly attractive and I enjoyed #1 for the most part. But in #2 I find the lack of costumes, bland bikinis and performances to make you yearn for the much better contests that come down the road in this series. There’s no real show-stopping performances and sometimes it feels like the girls are just going through the motions. I’ll let you decide and maybe a couple of more viewings will warm me up to this entry in the series.

Scope and Content: 8 contestants compete in this round of the California Girl Bikini Contest Series. Before each performance is shown, emcee Gary Wolf interviews them with just a couple of questions. The contests go out and strip down out of minimal clothing to their bikinis. There is a final walkaround and all contestants remain on stage where the placing and final winner is announced. The contestants include: Sherry, Kim Schreyer, Donna, Julie, Denise Schreyer, Cindy, Robin, and Renee. One contestant is missing and was not at the contest as explained by the emcee.

I just viewed CGBC #3 on YouTube and it was uploaded to this forum years ago and its identical to the contest below.

I purchased this one off of eBay and the VHS cassette was labeled as #2. I'd have to think that because the line-up is similar to #1, this video below is the true #2.

Unfortunately it's material that was already available and seen before. I hadn't watched that #3 video in years. But that's how it goes with eBay auctions and collecting vintage videos; especially since all CGBC Series videos have identical boxes.

I'm going to keep this post up. And the only good news is that there are two entries in this series still out there: #3 and #6. And maybe a full version of #8.

ive been a member for yrs and this is the 1st time today ive seen this pic haha..when i read its #3 on marbles fox hunt contest i checked youtube and google, but there's no view of the blonde contestant!! the lady on the right is obviously jamie but does anyone know who's the blonde? and how many are in the series?

I remember seeing this series on pay per view back in around 93 or so when the bikini contest genre was going out. Has anyone ever found this on the net? Some of the girls were REALLY hot! I remember a young Traci Bingham was in one of them!

Does Kim Shanahan appear in other videos? I've only seen her in this series.
