I always thought the Crimea belonged to the Tartars, at least until the Tsars and Stalin killed or exiled them all.

If you really want to know why no one believes the Russian Government Palo it's because they lie. How long did it take to admit to Katyn. 50 years. 50 years of lying.

Did Russia suffer any penalties for killing Trotsky? Doesn't seem like Stalin ever denied he ordered the killing. Ramon Mercader got caught and nearly beaten to death by Trotsky's bodyguards. He then served 20 years in a Mexican jail before be treated like a hero by Russian and Cuba.

It just seems like the Russians have gotten better at getting their assassins home without consequences to them. No one is going to believe their denials that they were behind the poisonings.

In the future, when Russia and China start fighting each other, it will be interesting to see what the other countries will do - other than to cook some popcorn and watch.

Sorry for the confusion. I'm not aware of any references either, it was supposed to be a snarky comment predicting what Palo would say as proof of the legitimacy of the election and how moral Russia is.
