The argumentation of the "The Bare" is making absolute sense, I have to admit I haven't thought of this possibility before. It's a not easy to underestimate risk to transport a nerve gas in a special box units were a simple pistole is a lot more effective. And why should someone kill his 30 years old daughter too, it's absolute unnecessary and not logical - and making it to a huge international incident pointing on Russia ???

What better revenge and deterrent than to turn someone who has turned against you into a vegetable? Especially if you take their nearest and dearest our as well! Death would be a huge release, and for me, preferable to a none life that would be suffered in a vegetative state! That is one hell of a frightener for me!

Intelligence:
It splits into segments, surveillance, cameras, satellite, drones, press reports and so on.
Cyber, self explanatory.
Signal monitoring, as in all basic types of communication.
Human, the most dangerous and risky, if you have someone in a sensitive position within the inner circle of the leadership, would you risk that person for the sake of satisfying the public? I do not think so. Their life and the intelligence they provide is far to important, I would think!

Lastly the various comments about sending a sample to the Russians for analysis! Grow up! It is like giving a criminal the right to check his own DNA or finger prints! Britain has sent samples to the international organisation tasked with checking this stuff out. Why would that not be good enough?

Former British diplomats are already more specific in their statements. Apparently, Porton Down scientists were pressured from above to find the 'right' kind of 'evidence'. But they refused to play this dirty game.

'I have now received confirmation from a well placed FCO source that Porton Down scientists are not able to identify the nerve gas as being of Russian manufacture, and have been resentful of the pressure being placed on them to do so. Porton Down would only sign up to the formulation “of a type developed by Russia” after a rather difficult meeting where this was agreed as a compromise formulation. The Russians were allegedly researching, in the “Novichok” programme a generation of nerve agents which could be produced from commercially available precursors such as insecticides and fertilisers. This substance is a “novichok” in that sense. It is of that type. Just as I am typing on a laptop of a type developed by the United States, though this one was made in China.

To anybody with a Whitehall background this has been obvious for several days. The government has never said the nerve agent was made in Russia, or that it can only be made in Russia. The exact formulation “of a type developed by Russia” was used by Theresa May in parliament, used by the UK at the UN Security Council, used by Boris Johnson on the BBC yesterday and, most tellingly of all, “of a type developed by Russia” is the precise phrase used in the joint communique issued by the UK, USA, France and Germany yesterday:

This use of a military-grade nerve agent, of a type developed by Russia, constitutes the first offensive use of a nerve agent in Europe since the Second World War.'

We don't need Russia - don't suppose they need us. Who cares if Russo-British relations are damaged beyond repair forever?
