The Duke of Edinburgh is 96 this year, most people of their age have long put their feet up and got out the pipe and slippers. The Duke has carried on, raising awareness for endangered species, operating the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme, which now covers everyone, including the disabled, and he has and still does a huge amount for hundreds of charities.

If you had met him, you would have found him a nice guy, with a servicemans sense of humour, and when he actually talks to people he is not only interested in the reply, but surprisingly well read on the subject. He is no ones fool and I remember that when the young princes went to see the floral tribute to their mother, it was his hand that the very young William clung to! So a very warm family man too.

So if others do not like this tough! Thank you sir for your service to our country, enjoy your semi retirement, we all know you will attend the events you consider important, like the Cenotaph, after all there you are paying tribute to men that died beside you on the destroyers in World War II.

Hear, hear. I used to deal with matters concerning Crown Estate properties - there are farms on the parkland in Windsor. I needed security clearance to go there and I met him once, fleetingly, but he was perfectly pleasant. The tenants had a high regard for him and he certainly knows his stuff about agriculture.

All he did was marry someone - someone who was equally thrown into a role they didn't necessarily choose, and have done their best to fulfil that role. I am no royalist but the country chooses to be - so they have done what they were asked to do.

Your making it difficult for me to be annoyed at you. Must have been the colonial influence on you when you were abroad that made you so damn agreeable........... That's annoying.

The vast majority of folks have been fitted for a coffin or processed by a crematorium well before reaching age 96. It is extraordinary that the Duke has continued with his duties for so long. Few people are so dedicated to fulfilling their duties and public service. Perhaps, this is the reason that the monarchy continues. Charles and William appear to be following in his footsteps.

Dickheads

Went out last night, had a great night till right at the end, waiting for a cab to take home and just had to run into that idiot who can't hold his liquor well and wants to start a fight, over a cab This was at a major venue in Melbourne and he started, I pushed him back, too old to get involved in that shit with a 20 year old pissed fuckwit, there's security at cab ranks there and they dragged him away and suspect he may be a little sore today but he got one in right on my ear and it still hurts If I were 10 or 15 years younger right now he'd be a lot more sore than he is now ..... a great night out spoiled by a violent drunk. Can't handle that kind of drinker

At least I'm not alone in my impatiens with the way the world.
I truly believe that the young need to be tuned in once in a while by a complete stranger....... As I was when I was young and dumb .....
I feel for you E because I know how f@cking disappointing it is to have to think about tomorrow, the kids,wife,job........and the possibility of going down in the fight.
That being said I probably would have Kneecapped the f@ck if he was dumb enough to poke.
But I'm impatient like that.............

Ain't just the young Mate, Once a violent drunk always a violent drunk, I've seen older dicks in their 30's 40's 50's even try and be tough when fuelled with alcohol

I can look after myself, mostly in that situation, been in plenty of pub fights and scuffles in the past and usually came out OK but every time a drunken dick has to start with something minor

Last night for example, my oldest Mates came down from my hometown and had a great night, when we were leaving we queued up at the cab rank and waited our turn .... I let them get the first ones as their trip home was going to take an hour, the dick behind me then jumped in front of myself when the next cab was mine ... this is where I fucked up, I said excuse me and wait your turn, he then told me I should have gotten in one of the other 2 cabs with my Mates, as I was about to open the cab door he just belted me in the side of the head without warning, gutless prick he then slightly stumbled and I managed to give a massive shove to his chest. I was lucky though, we were at the casino and security do hang around the cab ranks there constantly during peak times, I've a feeling they were watching this dick as even before our minor incident he was just being a loud mouth in general.

Not the first time I've been involved in an incident at a cab rank here, there just ain't enough of them in Melbourne

Anyway, my ear feels better
