Hooker's Girls...
The modern word "hooker" which today of course is applied to prostitutes, had its origins in the American Civil War.
General Joseph Hooker, commander of the Army of the Potomac in early 1863, was notorious for soliciting the services of prostitutes whenever he and his staff were on leave near Washington, D.C. The general and his inner circle were so notorious for their visits to the brothels, that the prostitutes that serviced them became known as "Hooker's Girls", which was a nickname that was perhaps first coined by the common soldiers of his army. This was later shortened to simply "Hookers". The word stuck.

Don't forget that you can also have a hooker in Rugby-one who 'hooks' the ball to the side out to his fellow player-wonder where that originated.?

A bakers dozen originated because the penalty for short changing customers with bread and rolls etc. in the medieval period was hand amputation. So to avoid this grim possibility and to make sure there was no misunderstanding, the bakers started selling 13 for the price of twelve. Hence the bakers dozen - 13.

Did you know that the voice of cartoon character Stewie in 'Family Guy' was based on Rex Harrison, according to Seth McFarlane on last week's Graham Norton Show. He also did an hilarious TAKEN spoof as Kermit the Frog(Taken was the film by Liam Neeson, the first of which had him searching for his kidnapped daughter) "I will find you, and I WILL kill you!" I have to admit I've seen approxiamately 12 seconds of Family Guy and didn't find it that amusing.

Ewwww
Did you know?..... that in the 1982 movie "The Thing", the slime and goop they used to make the creature's blood and also to make his wet, gross exterior was Carbopol, the same high-tech gel that is used to hold Twinkies snack cakes together.
I switched to Ring Dings after I saw this movie, lol

EXACTLY! I so wish I could get in a time machine and travel back to a Union army camp and listen to the things his soldiers must have said about him, and the names they made up for him!
