What is your view of women shopping in porn shops?

It's so usual to find myself in a porn store filled entirely with men, all pretending that nobody else is there, that I find it quite refreshing to find a few women in there as well. I don't find it embarrassing at all, in a way I find it liberating. Sadly it is rare. Of course I don't perv the women. Just everyone getting on with it, united by their enjoyment of naked flesh.

On the other hand, if you are a female porn shopper, what is your impression of porn shops?

My view on women in porn shops? Yea! lets all drop our fears and inhibition together...they are welcome and I hope they are as comfortable there as I am. I do not find myself in these shops often but I have noticed more women over the years, mostly shopping with their male partners.

On a side note, this has motivated me at times to go to the Adult Store in my female personna. Curious if I would get any attention.....and I did not! Guys, thanks for not perving the women, but if your interested or curious, have the courage to chat me up!

I remember one Saturday afternoon I was in a sex shop in Bremen, near the railway station. It was a match day, and Bremen had a home game against Hamburger SV that day...

At one point, a female Hamburg fan popped into the shop - clearly with no intention to buying (she was underage anyway, at most 16), just there to embarrass some customers - the sort of thing you do as an away fan...

When she asked me what I was recommending I was just as mortified as anyone else in the shop and failed (to my regret) to have the mental quickness to recommend to her in the S&M section the series Teenagers - hart bestraft (Teenagers - severely punished).

I think its more and more common these days. In the UK there is an Ann Summers on pretty much every high street and they have greatly removed any stigma attached to a woman buying sex toys. Any time I've been in one with my wife there are always groups of girls shopping together discussing the products, women in with their husbands/bfs and I even fairly regularly see women and their daughters there together picking outfits or toys.

Sex, self pleasure, pornography and eroticism have become so mainstream now I don't think its an issue.

I know Ann Summers isn't a porn shop as they don't sell dvds or magazines but to be honest economic realities mean those type of shops are on their way out anyway, these days a woman can go to her local high street buy a battery powered boyfriend, go home and log on to any number of video streaming sites and see if she can out last the Duracell bunny.

With internet porn this generation won't go through the rite of passage people born before 1990 had to of nervously going to a local shop and buying a porn magazine. In a few weeks the school summer holidays start and just look at how your connection speed drops over the next 2 months, because every teenage boy in your area will be shut up in his bedroom with the curtains closed ruining a perfectly good sock!

Back in the 'good old days' of my own porn shop career, I must admit, that although not what you might call common, there were a handful of women who would come in here and there; sometimes if a show was on nearby, or other times as a couple with their other half. Few occasions when a single female came in, and some stories of those times in other threads, some less shy than others.... lol.

Would assume that now porn is more legitimate there are still a few frequenting the odd establishment, but like myself, with so much free stuff on the net, why would they bother..? unless they're there for more than just to look around....?

Certainly a small bunch who get off on watching guys watching them in the shops, and often play up to it, but also those who bottle it and get suddenly very less eager if a guy plays them back..... again, just in my own experience.

My wife and I are regular visitors to the two Sex Shops which we have in town, on average ... once a month.

If it's one of the regular guys on the till at either of the shops, we will stop and have a brief and friendly chat with him. Whilst doing that guys will possibly purchase their DVDs or Magazines without batting an eyelid, the presence of a woman doesn't seem to embarrass them and neither is it out intention for that to happen.

But it hasn't always been this simple. About 25 years ago now, in the pre internet days when if you wanted a dildo it was more convenient to buy one over the counter at such establishments rather than run the risk of mail order and explain to your mom what the large parcel was when the postie arrived.... the wife popped into one of the above mention shops to but one.

She knew which one she wanted because we had seen it the week before and she had the cash ready to pay for it, so it was a purely clinical operation, we planned it like this because I was at work and she'd have to go in on her own and she was a bit nervous about this.

The shop was empty, which was what the wife was hopping for, but the then guy behind the counter (who no longer works there) who was a bit of a cheeky chappie and always had a quip or such to share with the wife or I whenever popped in, tried to chatted her up!

He blatantly offered her the opportunity to test out the Dildo in the back office, as there was a "no returns" policy on such goods. And when on to ask her if she did any modelling and would she be available for an amateur photographer group he ran.

The wife politely refused his offers and got out of the shop ASAP.

But I got it in the neck as she accused me of having told him that we did photography because why else would he ask, it took some explaining to convince her otherwise. I said the guy was just being friendly!

Needles to say it was a long time before she would accompany me into that or any other Sex Shop, but that all in the past and she laughs at it now.

Talking to the guys on the tills as we do..... they are saying as mentioned above by other posters.... the internet has ruined the business and they don't know how much longer they can keep going.

Which will be a shame...

Sex Shops back in the 70's-80's often had a lady behind the till when I went in. I think I preferred that to some of the men you had to pay. I always felt comfortable in sex shops, as you knew everyone was there for exactly what you were there for - some, generally rather expensive, porn. Getting into the sex shop was a different matter - lurking and waiting until the coast was clear. And leaving the shop was a lottery, you just had to go for it.

Re Arsewipers point about Teenagers and internet porn, if you showed today's teenagers what I wanked over in the 1960's, I suspect they would not be able to move for hysterical laughter. They would be asking where the porn was, because as a thirteen year old in the UK, you could not get porn and could barely get anything sexy. I did find one mag and nicked one from an older cousin's stash, but they would not be considered porn at all these days. Only bare breasts and definitely no pussies on show. Which meant you had to wank over anything you could find, such as the Lingerie sections in catalogues, swimwear ads, occasional tits in the Sunday Time Colour Supplement (quite edgy in the 60's), slightly flirty pictures in the News of the World, slightly sexy pictures in your mother's magazines (this was pre-Cosmopolitan, but 'She' had the odd pic to excite a desperate 13 year old) plus any sexy stories and books you lay your hands on. (Last Exit to Brooklyn, anyone?). Plus no video recording, so you couldn't keep the odd bit of sex on the TV, and you certainly couldn't wank while you were watching it as so was your mother. Fortunately, my parents liked to watch BBC 2, as it was the only channel then to show some sexy material.

I like to think that my years of porn poverty has improved my imagination in compensation!

When I went to the ones in Manchester, at around the age of 18-25, I found them to be fairly miserable places. If I ever bought anything there'd always be pressure to buy more stuff eg. "give me another £5 and I'll throw this in, it's worth £10" etc. Really annoying. In the end I stopped going, partly because of that and partly because I was usually disappointed with whatever I'd bought.
