In the 1920s the house of commons passed a bill fixing the date of Easter as the second sunday in April. However the house of lords (which included quite a few bishops) voted against the bill.

Just wanted to get that off my chest - or stomach. As far as Did You Know goes, looking through my own collection for examples of title tracks not on albums, I see that the Cardigans Emmerdale is not on the album so titled but on its follow-up Life; that Pulp's His 'n' Hers does not contain the track of the same name, rather that's on an EP; and that Elvis Costello released an album of country covers entitled Almost Blue - the title he also gave to an original song on his next album Imperial Bedroom, where it presumably displaced the song of the same name, forcing it out on to the b-side of a 12in single.

According to the producer of Q.I.(Quite Interesting) in a special repeated last night, Stephen Fry was not first choice as the presenter but Michael Palin. John Lloyd tried in vain to get Michael to agree to it but he refused and so at an eleventh hour plea Lloyd phoned Fry and asked him to do the pilot...the rest as they say is history Q.I. moves into it's next letter 'L' this summer. Incidentally in the pilot version were Bill Bailey(soon to be a regular), Alan Davies(who went on to be Fry's sort of comedy relief), Eddie Izzard, who would come back years later and Kit Hesketh-Harvey(of comic cabaret act Kit and the Widow), making his only appearance to date.
Regulars on the show were/are Phil Jupitus, Bill Bailey, Jo Brand, Sean Lock, Rich Hall, Jeremy Clarkson(Top Gear) Rob Brydon and Jimmy Carr. All comedians except Clarkson whom most regard as a clown anyway

The Amazon.com supremo Jeff Bezos started off in his garage selling books by mail order and then moved onto the Internet. He also has the most awful laugh imaginable which was heard several times in last night's documentary about the company's highs & lows on BBC2.

Despite having no lyrics, the album (by way of its song titles) follows the story of the Great Leap Forward in Mao Zedong-era China, more specifically recounting the Great sparrow campaign, a mass killing of sparrows (along with rats, flies and mosquitoes) that fed on a portion of the harvest and were seen as pests. Peasants were encouraged to bang pots and pans to scare sparrows into continuing flight, eventually killing them from exhaustion. Whilst the harvest of the year after the campaign was larger, there was a massive rise in locust numbers in the late 1950s, as a result of the significantly lower population of sparrows, a major predator of the locust. Along with other programs in the Great Leap Forward the great sparrow campaign caused widespread famine where, between 1959 and 1961, 38 million people died of starvation. 1. "The Great Leap Forward Poured Down Upon Us One Day Like a Mighty Storm, Suddenly and Furiously Blinding Our Senses." 2. "We Stood Transfixed in Blank Devotion as Our Leader Spoke to Us, Looking Down on Our Mute Faces with a Great, Raging, and Unseeing Eye." 3. "Like the Howling Glory of the Darkest Winds, This Voice Was Thunderous and the Words Holy, Tangling Their Way Around Our Hearts and Clutching Our Innocent Awe." 4. "A Message of Avarice Rained Down and Carried Us Away into False Dreams of Endless Riches." 5. "'Annihilate the Sparrow, That Stealer of Seed, and Our Harvests Will Abound; We Will Watch Our Wealth Flood In.'" 6. "And by Our Own Hand Did Every Last Bird Lie Silent in Their Puddles, the Air Barren of Song as the Clouds Drifted Away. For Killing Their Greatest Enemy, the Locusts Noisily Thanked Us and Turned Their Jaws Toward Our Crops, Swallowing Our Greed Whole." 7. "Millions Starved and We Became Skinnier and Skinnier, While Our Leaders Became Fatter and Fatter." 8. "Finally, as That Blazing Sun Shone Down Upon Us, Did We Know That True Enemy Was the Voice of Blind Idolatry; and Only Then Did We Begin to Think for Ourselves."

The best selling rock band in the history of MCA records is not The Who.
It's Lynyrd Skynyrd. (Sorry Billy Bunter) Free Bird!

I just learned of a coined Japanese verb: bushuru; definition: to vomit uncontrollably.
