Okay I accept that challenge and see what you make of this version. Music is from 'The Mask' and is by Domino called 'Business of Love'. It is the only thing I could find that was halfway appropriate and not the same tired Stripper tune. See what you think and thanks to the original poster - mashed.

put a happy girl who's enjoys stripteasing on stage ... delicious! Give her a lovely costume ... outer and underwear ... delicious! Give her the right music ... agonisingly delicious!
Two fantastic musical interpretations of the same act ... the same striptease but not the same striptease ... it's a fantastic illustration of how the music is an essential part of the art. we'll never all agree what the perfect musical style is ... but both mashed and GM have dished up some very tasty dishes indeed. David Rose's The Stripper always switches the light on ... in fact anything big and brassy does ... it would be interesting to see if it worked with this act ... somehow I think it wouldn't ... the scale of the theatre seems wrong for it but I'd be very willing to test it if someone could oblige! After two agonisingly enjoyable versions of Miss Slinky from Mexico City ... asking for another one is ... probably ... being very greedy! even so, cries of more! more! seem a good way to end a perfect act ... |

small note about stripper Nadja Gray in Praline 1975 no 23. Not to be confused with actress Nadia Gray. Last edited by beutelwolf; 05-06-2012 at 04:10 PM.. Reason: typo |

![]() Two articles from Praline in 1973 (issues 18 and 21) about legal wranglings of striptease venues. The first article reports about a venue that was closed down after an incident in which one of the strippers sexually molested a policeman that came to the bar to investigate a reported theft. The second article is about a village's attempt to close down such a venue - they lost at court and even had to pay a fine. The article also contains a correction about the earlier one (the depicted stripper was named wrongly and had not appeared in that venue anyway). |

I watched Burlesque Undressed last night on Sky Arts1 channel which was mostly showcasing Immodesty Blaize and others that perform here, but also featured those old Burlesquers with names like Satan's Angel and Joan Arline-most of which I've never heard of and even Gypsy Rose Lee was shown in archive footage but not stripping. The underlying features of all this were the words THEATRE, ENTERTAINMENT and TITILATION. Now as you know I advocate that Burlesque is completely different from stripping and this really hammers that home. Burlesque actually started in this country as dancing and then our girls(names escape me) crossed over to America and performed there-meanwhile the Follies Bergere & Moulon Rouge were happening in Paris, France. It was all about performance and theatre, dare one say variety and in America the 'strippers' were usually the butt of the baggy-pants comics that were put on the bill.
Take stripping normally. You don't have beautiful gowns, large plumed ostrich featherted headdresses nor gimmicks like wine glasses, wings or for that matter the girls wearing pasties. What you got from your straightforward strip was a girl/woman, probably not used to performing, encouraged by crowds of baying men into being sleazy and undressing with very little panache and style and of course the end result was either topless or 'the full monty' full frontal nudity. So in summary, you knew exactly what to expect from a Burlesque performer, but not always a stripper. I must confess I was bored after about five minutes and was more interested in the history of it rather than seeing Dirty Martini popping balloons-let's face it, she is not pretty by any stretch of the imagination and most shown were American anyway. In the end I just wasn't convinced by Burlesque and thought a stripper like even the less than pretty Brandy Di Frank(The Sweeney) would have been more of a turn on, but then I am a lot older and maybe don't find it as exciting as I did when younger. Horses for courses as it were.

Can't agree with this, GM!
![]() ![]() ![]() True that one end of the striptease spectrum had ... or is for all I know ... crowds of baying men ... but the other end ... no way! The Sunset opened in 1960 I think. By the time I came to it full nudity was permitted on stage ... there were good periods ... elegant costumed striptease acts with props and choreography .. the butterfly girl ... the moon maiden ... the ballet dancer ... Bo Peep ... the French tart ... the bridesmaid ... the bellydancer ... the air hostess ... the builders ... the builders? dungarees and stepladders! the country girl on the swing ... the hooped skirt ... the ball gown ... the corsets ... the smart office wear ... occasionally nylons ... a few boas and fans ... even the sober dark two piece jacket and skirt ... and there were bad periods ... probably far more bad periods than good ... better not to even think about them ... ... but never, ever crowds of baying men! The Sunset's opening tape ... to the strains of Richard Strauss' Also sprach Zarathustra ... had the memorable opening words ... Welcome to the Sunset, London's premier striptease theatre ... relax gentlemen, sit back, and enjoy the show! eight minute acts ... two minute intervals ... yes, it was theatre ... yes, it was entertainment ... and when the teasing was good ... yes it was very titilating too ... and it was striptease .. full frontal ... full back view... full side views ... full nude striptease! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
