Default Major League Baseball thread

Since NFL & NBA already have threads, I thought it high time America's National Pastime was represented. But Dick, you say, I'm a ____________ (Aussie, Brit, Scot, Kiwi, Canuck) blah blah blah- how does this concern me The answer- IT DOESN'T Unless you're a baseball fan, go read about curling or golf or croquet or something. This space is devoted to the discussion of, trade rumors of, legendary players & games of, notable arrests of, pennant races of, and the GLORIED HISTORY of a REAL man's game, the greatest game ever invented- BASEBALL!!!!!

Odd poll to conduct i reckon. It depends entirely on who you follow yourself, as to which team you despise....??

As a Yankees fan, im sure you know which way i voted..?? (laughs)

Now we don't get MLB on Channel 5 over in the Uk anymore; broadcast rights having having gone to ESPN which is a pay station; I'd be glad to see some good information and conversation here though.

I'm assuming, that despite your rhetoric above; us British fans of the MLB aren't barred from the thread..?

Damn!! Just checked the ESPN UK schedule.... Yankees @ Tampa Bay as I write this..!!!!

Alright Mr. Gozinya I suspect you may be a Giants fan. Or should I say World Series Champion Giants. I know we have a few baseball fans on this forum including myself. I hail from the 612 so my team has always been the Twins. Since the days of Killebrew and Olivia I have been a huge fan. I am watching them and the Tribe as I type. Double header today at Target Field w/ daytime temps of about 100 F. Tribe won the first game and the Twins are leading in the second game.

So who's going to win the NL West Dick? It looks to me like the Giants should have no problem repeating especially if the Rockies end up trading Jiminez like they have been reporting. What do you think?

BANNED BRITS????? HELL NO! An assumption (evidently wrong) on my part that there would be little interest amongst our European brethren. I, for one welcome with interest and anticipation input, banter, and opinion from ANY fan of the Grand Game regardless of place of residence. I toyed with the idea of barring Dodger fans (my boys are The Giants/since I was 8 yo.) but that would take a lot of the fun out!!!! And Dannii, you have GOT to know that your "Bronx Zoo" will win that poll. (hell, I hate 'em myself) That said I'm also an Oakland Raiders fan, and they are like the Yanks in that respect- people are either fans of they DESPISE 'em I look forward to many interesting posts, My Brother- PLAY BALL!!!

When it comes to baseball, anybody but the Yankees. My dad was a Cardinals fan, my maternal grandfather was a Tigers fan from the days of Ty Cobb, my paternal grandmother was partial to the Dodgers and my older sister is a Mets fan. I have a Cardinals cap with my dad's initials embroidered on the side.

First off- I gotta know... Does "keefriff" refer to a certain Brit guitarist best known for a high tolerance to drugs and a style of play that espouses "Berryesque" riffs?. Glad to have you here, Keef!! I, too, remember the days of Kaat, Killebrew (RIP, Harmon- you were total CLASS), Carew, Oliva, & Blyleven. In fact, when we were playing "sandlot" as kids, anybody lost the bat, we would shout like an announcer- "and Oliva loses his stick"!!!!!! I also remember the Twins of the 90's with Puckett, Morris, Gladden etc. What happened to the boys THIS year? Seems like they're in the mix almost every year....

And yes, I think the Giants will win the west. Is there any REAL threat?? It's early October that worries me... Somebody (Bochy, Meulens) needs to see that those MoFos get some extra BP!!!!

I suppose the poll may SEEM odd, but I'm kinda running a test to see if certain suspicions I have hold true among baseball fans in general...

The Yankees are (to be ham-fisted with the metaphors and all) the Citizen Kane of basebsll teams. They demand superlatives and usually get them. I don't particularly hate them but they are easily the most loved, hated, written about, covered, hyped, over-hyped, etc. By far.

I'm a Cubs fan, btw. Yes, we suck ass this year. Don't bother, I know.

As a Cubbies fan you truly deserve some kind of award for persistence:thumbsup : Whenever i got frustrated about the Giants not winning year after year after year, I just reminded myself that it could be worse... My mantra number was 1908

But of course! One of my personal heroes.

In the mix until the playoffs start. We get smoked by the Yankees in the playoffs every year it seems. A lot of injuries on this years club. Morneau has missed most of the season and Mauer is about two weeks off the DL after being on it since the first month of the season. They are playing better now but they have alot of ground to make up in the AL Central if they want to make the playoffs.......and then get swept by the Yanks.
