Thumbs down I'm so tired of Zero-Thankers' requests

OK, reading my signature you know that I don't like 'Please thank me' wankers. But there is still another species of VEF members that annoys me: Zero-Thankers' requests.
  1. Members, who are new to the forum, don't bother to become familiar with VEF and its rules and to learn how to use the search option. (On Usenet there once was a rule: lurk and learn!)
    .
  2. Members, who quote a post asking "Is there more than this?" or "Anybody have more of this?" - of course without having thanked the quoted poster!
    .
  3. Long-time members, whose first post is a request... Didn't they really find anything after all this time that was worth to push the button?
Many of them don't even respond; so you never know whether your help was received (they have still zero Thanks on their member account).

Well, I'm so tired of helping those individuals... and I don't do it anymore.

We are all fed up with them Al. To be honest if they post requests in VET and they are decent thankers not wankers, then I will move their request into the request thread, and hopefully it will be dealt with.

If they have a string of requests, no thanks and no content posted, then it is trashed.

A lot of forums used to have a minimum post requirement for requesting stuff, or requests were generally ignored when asked by people who had no posts. I don't know if forums still do that but to me it was a good idea, at least people put some effort into it. Alsso it ws actual posts required and not just quick cut and paste thanks.

oddly enough, I was just grumbling to myself about this very topic earlier. I don't
understand why it seems to be too much work for someone to simply scroll the ol'
mouse down, and hit thanks. what's the old expression? "ya' gotta give, to get?"

new members are one thing I guess, but I'm surprised by members with post counts
in the many thousands, and only a couple hundred "thanks". doesn't make sense!
it's like a weird game of double-dare, or a staring contest.

Interesting thread. It is easy to agree with Al Gebra's first two points about zero thankers, but I'm not so sure about the 3rd. Being new on the forum there is probably a lot of tacit knowledge I don't know about so excuse me if I step on someone's toes. But I must say I'm more suspicious of people with a lot of thanks and almost no posts. If the ratio is very much the other way around - what is that an indication of? It is so easy to to say thanks and not make an effort to help the community at all. Should I browse every thread on the forum and say thanks whereever I can? To put it in an extreme perspective: someone who has 1000 posts and 10 thanks might be more useful to the community than someone with 1000 thanks and 10 posts. My general point is you can not infer anything useful from just looking at the ratio - except maybe that it is a long standing member. One would need to go through a member's posts to see what he actually did. I'm sure that is what the mods do when promoting someone to 'veteran member'' based on special merits? I think we all agree that something in between would be good since too many no thankers would stop people from posting new stuff. A common disease on so many torrent forums...

I might be wrong in my assesment here but even if I'm wrong, I'm not sure what is said here is right either... and would be happy for someone to explain it for me..

P.S I have seen some senior members who have almost no thanks but post excellent quality stuff - in terms of movies or other rare stuff.

To Al Gebra: Then we are in agreement about the 3rd point as well.

To be more specific: I'm talking about long-time members, whose first post is a request.

That's not quite the topic of this thread. Don't mix it up with "What annoys you the most ?".

What can be even more annoying, and I am told this as I don't tend to upload myself, is when people make requests and then don't even thank the poster for filling the request. That to me is even more non commumity minded than asking for stuff with zero posts or zero thanks.

What makes life living is, when you go to a lot of hassle finding the info they want, and they don't thank you, and then you actually get the clip and don't post it.

Priceless.
