I heard an interview with an old-school advert maker on radio recently. He was decrying the state of modern advertising. Basically, you see the ad but no-one can then remember, or even comprehend, what it is advertising.
He said the trouble was they were all art students trying to make little art films on someone else's budget. They would sneer at "For mash get smash" -but everyone new what that ad was for as soon as they heard that line and they would remember it forever.
