I love live music, and have been to thousands of gigs so I had to rack my brains to come up with my answer...and it's a surprising one.

I went to see Motorhead because I liked a few of their recent records - "Ace Of Spades" had only just left the charts. Well, sorry about this M'head fans but they were fucking terrible...the noisiest, most inept shit I had ever heard.

But the support act were a little known semi-comedic band called the Fabulous Poodles who were championed by The Who's bassist John Entwhistle and much liked by D.J John Peel. They were a fantastic band and the atmosphere was great - really fun stuff with moments of dazzling musicianship. I saw them several more times at the old Nashville Rooms in Kensington, London and they never disappointed...but that first gig was superb.
