In my fire service area there has always been areas where crews have to have backup when attending incidents. Usually it is nothing more than sending an extra pump - one to put the fire out and one to watch the backs of the working crew and stop stuff being nicked off their machine..

One reason why nowadays fire pumps are fitted with all-round CCTV. Didn't have it when I rode the machines sadly..

I have attended incidents where we have come "under fire" from missiles thrown from blocks of flats. I have even seen a washing machine "fall" from a ninth story balcony while crews were working below at a fire in a rubbish shute. Stone throwers are common at incidents.. Police are called but usually by the time they arrive the perpetrators are long gone.
