Here's something most people don't know.

The Detective (1967)
Tony Rome (1968)
Lady In The Cement (1968) (Raquel Welch looks very hot in this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tc7xuNzZ04 )

All 3 are Frank Sinatra's movies.

They are called Frank Sinatra's tough cop/private investigator trilogy and are usually sold together in a 3 film DVD box set.

In The Detective he plays a tough NYC police detective, Joe Leland.

In Tony Rome and Lady In The Cement he plays a tough private investigator, Tony Rome.

Add Die Hard 1 with Bruce Willis to that trilogy.

Why?

Die Hard 1 was supposed to be a sequel to Tony Rome.

But by the time it was offered to Sinatra in 1985 or so due to a contract he had to make several The Detective movies, he said he was too old to act.

The film The Detective is based on a 1966 novel by author Roderick Thorpe titled The Detective.

Die Hard is based on a 1979 novel called Nothing Lasts Forever by the same author Roderick Thorpe - which is a literary sequel to The Detective.

NO! Die Hard was not originally a sequel to Commando. That is a Hollywood myth.

It was because the role of John McLane was originally offered to Arnold and then Stallone and then Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford , Richard Gere, Don Johnson and Burt Reynolds, all of them turned it down, before it made its way to Bruce Willis.

Willis received $5 million for the role which was unheard of at the time. That kind of salary was only given to prominent actors of the time like Hoffman and Beatty.

Plus Willis was a nobody in Hollywood while Die Hard was going into pre-production.

He was only known for his Moonlighting comedy TV series.
