I have not bought a ticket on the James Franco train.
Having seen some of the movies he has been in and been exposed to some of his writing, I find him neither profound or prolific in terms of quality. He comes across as an at best marginally talented, slightly-stoned hipster slacker. His fans will inevitably say to his detractors that Franco is SO talented and SO profound and SO deep that if one doesn't appreciate him one is simply too thick and doesn't "get" him.
I don't think that's the case, though. I think Franco is just sophomorically pretentious, and hasn't displayed enough talent even strictly within the realm of acting to get a fraction of the praise he has, much less in terms of his other non-acting endeavors.
