PART THREE:
Homeless and confused
Robbed of her money and her car, a sleeping Sue Ellen wakes up to find herself lying on top of a flattened cardboard box in a dirty alleyway. She looks around and wonders where she is and how she has ended up in such an ugly enviroment. The events which have led to this situation are a blur to her.
A drunken old bag-lady stands over her with a bottle of alcohol. Sue Ellen asks the homeless drunk where she is. Her reply is short, simple and terrifying: "You're at the bottom of a bottle, honey." She then offers the confused, hung-over Sue Ellen a swig from her bottle. Sue Ellen reacts by running as far away from the scene as possible.
Hours pass and a scared and confused Sue Ellen walks the streets of Dallas. Penniless and without a destination to reach, the fallen socialite wanders aimlessly around the roughest parts of the city where vice and robbery is a part of daily life.
Eventually she stops outside a liquor store. She is thirsty again, but without a dime to her name, she has little chance of drinking any of the alcohol displayed in the store front window. As she gazes longingly at the objects of her desire, a customer from the store walks out and takes notice of her. He senses her thirst and decides to invite her to a nearby cheap motel for a drink.
Hours - and many bottles - later, Sue Ellen falls asleep on a motel-room bed as her male companion tries his best to entertain her with stories of his life exploits. He tries to wake her, but Sue Ellen is out cold. He is astounded at her ability to drink so much alcohol reflecting this in his comment, "... you can sure pack 'em away...".
Determined to get something from the evening, even if not her body as originally planned, he consoles himself by stealing her valuable wedding ring from her fingers as she sleeps. With this, he makes his exit.
