I don't think that's necessarily true, MemoryHunter. Surely it depends on the type of dog and/or the amount of exercise and work it gets, not on its size

For example, I kept a 90 kg dog in a 140 m2 apartment, and in an 80 m2 apartment for 12 years, and never had a problem. She didn't even need so much space. On the other hand, she had at least 10 km of walking and running every day. She thrived

But intelligent, 'working dogs' are different. Some must be kept outdoors, and if you don't 'work' them, it's a crime against the dog. Many of these unfortunate animals, the most intelligent dogs we have, are kept in cages no bigger than a prison cell for most of their lives. So much for 'needing space'
