Congratulations on your birthday present! And on your birthday of course.
As I have said before, I scan at 150/240/300 dpi with little to no editing.
150 for large pages
240 is my usual dpi
300 for models I like very much, or if a lower dpi gives a lot of moiré.
There is no such thing as one best dpi setting. Experiment and see what works best for you. I would suggest a minimum of 150 dpi. Modern scanners can do that well and quickly. Use a higher dpi as long as the scanning speed is acceptable to you. More than 300 dpi is overkill IMO.
