They were advertised on TV and in all sorts of family magazines. In other words, almost all women were wearing them almost all the time.
So... WHERE ARE ALL THE PICTURES? I know that it was hard to get "racy" color pics developed. In some states you could get busted for that. But even some kids I knew could develop B&W film and a few of the guys in the area had darkrooms with all the chemicals and stuff including enlargers. Some of these people had to be taking what we'd term now as "amateur photos" of their wives and gfs, and the nude ones are real common and these women had to have stripped and pictures are taken of that in every era. And yet... pictures of the hot milfs of my youth and the first women I undressed are all but non-existent. I've looked everywhere and I doubt I have more than 50 such photos, if that. There are also plenty of pictures of women in garter belts but from where I stood, they weren't nearly as common as girdles... Think of it... In Mad Men, Don Draper's wife, the exquisite January Jones is pictured in that hyper time-realistic series in all kinds of foundation garments and if women like her were wearing them, and I guarantee you they were, all women were. So... where are the fucking pictures of women "in the wild", (i.e. not in ads or catalogs), wearing girdles, etc? There HAVE TO be some. WTF happened to all of them?
A lot of stuff was burnt, any racy image in the past was considered porn. Police raids, feminist action groups, puritanical religous groups all willing to grab photos, negs, film and burn it. Also here in the UK bent coppers would seize stuff in vice raids and sell it on to collectors at high fees no q's asked. If you've paid a lot for a collection you aint gonna put it out there for all to see. Also sexual mores of the day meant many women wouldn't pose for pics even whores who mostly lived double lives back then would be suspicious of someone taking pics......might be an undercover vice cop or some kind of deviant......where were these pics gonna end up. There were lots of arguments back then about who holds neg licences, this sort of stuff could ruin careers......look at Joan Crawfords story.
In Germany in the 20's & 30's there was a market in underground porn stemming from the nightclub culture, but the Nazi's destroyed almost all the material considering it degenerate.
Such seizures of porn by authorities were going on right up to the mid 90's but the internet has pretty much made it redundant. So old genuine porn is still rare as rocking horse sh!t but the modern stuff (which is about as erotic as a road accident in my opinion) can be seen by any six yr old with a wee bit of computer nous and a smart phone.
