Default 1989 Lowrider Los Angeles Super Show Bikini Contest

Photo Preview:

Administrative/Biographical History:

Biker rallies seem to be the domain of the White working class; though not exclusively. While lowrider shows are a well-known part of the Hispanic-American or Chicano culture in the United States; but again, not exclusively. What these two events have in common though is that they can be a gold mine for photo and video content of wild bikini and wet t-shirt contests. Biker rallies usually focus on wet t-shirt contests that involve a range of women from all ages and sizes and tend to devolve into the contestants stripping off all their clothes and performing lewd and sleazy dance numbers on stage. Not that I’m complaining at all. The lowrider shows focus more on bikini contests with usually young, hard-bodied Hispanic women who seem to blend a spirit of competition with outright sexual exhibitionism. When you watch these contestants, you can tell they have a great desire to win but also really enjoy showing off on stage. Some of the best bikini contests I have seen in my years as a collector have come from the lowrider shows.

Lowrider Magazine began in 1977 out of San Jose, CA and published on all aspects of lowrider culture. And, it seems, a big aspect of this culture is stunning and sexy models who appear in the magazine monthly. Lowrider’s website is an extension of the publication and has section that contains videos that go back to the late 1980s. The videos were produced by the magazine as a highlight of lowrider shows they were covering; which mostly do not interest me. But, these videos usually contain at least one part that focuses on the bikini contests. The 1989 Lowrider Los Angeles Super Show was a part of a video called the Tri-City Tour and featured one of the best 80s bikini contests I’ve seen. I downloaded the full video from the website and edited just to get that contest.

Scope and Content:

The contest in the video runs about 12:50 and features 8 contestants who are not named or identified. It shows their brief introduction on stage, a round with each contestant stripping and dancing, a semi-finals featuring the last 4 competitors and offers them doing their best moves, and then a finals for the last two.

The Beautiful Women of Lowriding (1999). Contains contests from what look like the mid to early 90s. Check out part 2 and see one of the best bikini contest performances ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ3y0ZYQ3hU
