Not really surprising-Australia is an average of 1400 miles from NZ-and with ocean separating us-but we still get darkened skies and extra colourful dawns and sunsets in NZ when they have bushfires in Oz-so 250 miles is right next door comparatively speaking-you might even expect to see some ashfall from the fires where you are.
