There is a very good reason why they are doing this... To get free testers (aka unpaid lab rats)....lol.
Every new OS they bring out is riddled with holes, which is why they quickly offer updates and patches to cover them up. Sadly, Win8 was so bad they ended up having to bring out the 8.1 upgrade to not only fill big holes, but also to give users some form of start menu back so they could navigate with more ease. As someone who has to use Win8/8.1 daily I find it easy, but I can fully understand someone coming to it and having trouble.
As I understand it, MS are offering you the choice with the new Win10 OS to have either the same tile format or a version of the more preferred Win7 layout. But having not yet had time to fully check it out for myself, I cannot confirm if this is the case.
