The more conventional forms of transportation in place already are ok, and native aussies don't travel that much anyway. Most of the action in Australia happens in the big cities. Only 10% of the total land mass in Australia is habitable so it would probably be a waste to build a mag-lev train. The minimum cost of such a project would be in the billions of dollars and Australia has better need of that money for more lucrative enterprises!
