i guess i know what your problem is..
if you create protected archives for your own purposes and set a default password in the main program (instead of creating a separate profile), winrar will automatically use this password to encrypt the protection of any archive you try to extract.
that's not a bug, it's a feature of winrar. the GUI of winrar is very confusing / uncomfortable if you "try and error" such things
