I've heard of these associations cracking down too hard on people for piddly shit, this just goes way too far.

I read the story. No sympathy for the guy. He should never have moved into a neighborhood with a HOA if he wasn't going to follow the rules. He could have displayed the flag in another manner. He chose to be a jerk and it cost him. End of story.
