A positive news item for a change as the male marathon winner was also a full time worker, they simply run because they like it.

It almost wants me to put my pie and chips down and go to the gym..... almost
To piggy-back on this, congratulations to the winner, Desiree Linden, the first American woman to win since 1985! She is a San Diego native, went to Hilltop high school in Chula Vista, and had come in 2nd in a number of important marathons, once losing by 2 seconds.

The conditions were brutal - rain, temperatures in the 30s, with a 10mph headwind for some of the race. This was the first time in 11 years that someone not from Kenya or Ethiopia hadn't won. In the past 21 years, only 2 Russians had broken through the stranglehold that the 2 African nations had on this race.
