I have a Logitech universal remote to control TV, Blu-ray player, Hi-fi and various "boxes" attached to the home entertainment system. I have never had a problem accessing menus or other functions.. Generally I find that if the function exists on the original remote then it can be programmed.
You may have to do a custom setup of the function by teaching the universal remote using the original.
