Hmm not sure I should admit this but in the early days of the 1980's when I was about 15 I did get my first magazine, which I think was the rather sleazy looking ESCORT or it could have been FIESTA. I had this trick where I would collect several others like SHOOT or MATCH football magazines and/or a newspaper like The Sun(which was good back then) and when the chap wasn't looking(and it those days there was no mirror or cctv) I would spin back and grab the magazine and shove it into the paper. With luck he never checked. I had another trick whereby I showed him the front of the paper, told him the price and then the prices of the other two magazines and get away with it. I did this several times with Asian shopkeepers, especially those that didn't know me or who would remember me coming back weeks later. Mind you there was one that I knew well but the way to get round that was his magazine racks were over in one corner of the shop and I worked out where the mirror's blind spot was so again I could do it easily but I remember I used to get quite a few other magazines per month and the best ones were the Electric Blue series and M*yf*ir, P-House and Knave. Envariably I paid for those but some I did quickly stuff down my trousers or up one's jumper, doing my coat up quickly. I didn't always get away with it as one would fall out and I would pick it up, having not been spotted and have to pay for it, but I never got caught...shameful I know but back then I didn't have a lot of money to bandy about.
