If you are reading this you are probably well aware of the CPU/GPU cooling fan noise issue. All the T4x's I have ever run had fans that sounded like a jet taking off. NO amount of balancing, lubrication, shrouding, etc helped. So short of replacing the fan every few months you just had to suck it up. You know something is wrong when the fan is blasting away nearly all the time and yet no heat is being carried out with the air current.
Turns out that the fan speeds that IBM selected are completely over-engineered. Download this free program and it will change your world. I was reluctant at first (to take the fan speed control away from the embedded BIOS settings) but this application is unbelievable. The fan hardly ever runs at all - it has a real time read out on the task bar and you can take manual control or switch back to BIOS control with two clicks.
It monitors 7 points including the CPU/GPU couple and displays the hottest one.
I have been using it now for a year and I swear by it.
