Arrow Celebrity Skin & Celebrity Sleuth Magazines

I've long been a fan of both Celebrity Skin & Celebrity Sleuth magazines, as I'm sure many of you are. Long before the internet these mags were really the only way to see the more "sensitive" sides of one's favorite celebrities. After the arrival of the internet most sites and pages featuring nude and/or semi-nude celebrity material began by posting scans from the pages of these magazines (and doing so repetetively, as we have all seen).

We can all thank High Society magazine for starting this trend (as well as Playboy--Hef's Mag--which began publishing annual pictorials like "Sex Stars" and "Sex In Cinema", and monthly sections like "Grapevine" as early as the late 1960s) as they began regularly featuring celebrity pictorials in the mid-1970s, and eventually released Celebrity Skin as a semi-annual "collector's edition" mag in 1979 (which eventually became a monthly in the 1980s).

Celebrity Sleuth--an obvious rip-off of Celeb Skin that was in some ways better than its progenitor--came around in 1985 as home video became firmly established in American culture resulting in an ever-increasing number and wider range of movies being released on videocassette. Combined with the growing computer technology--such as VHS image capture software and hardware--both magazines were able to provide readers with a constant stream of sexy celebrities in print.

The internet has had a serious impact on the adult magazine business over the last 15 years or so and while both of these magazines are still published--to the best of my knowledge--they are increasingly difficult to find even as new issues. Interestingly enough, the back issues from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s have been plentiful in shops that sell such material, as well as from online dealers, but--for a variety of reasons--are now beginning to dry up; early issues of Celebrity Skin (under #20) in particular are quite difficult to find and can sell for upwards of $10-$20 (more if the magazines are in "very fine" to "near mint" condition, which they rarely are).

So how do I know this and who gives a shit? In my efforts to complete runs of both these titles, I came across a large cache being sold for a palty $3 an issue including many duplicates in high condition grades. I recently started selling these on E-Bay with solid success and will continue to as long as the supply and demand holds out. Obviously I need to provide scans of at least the covers for the E-Bay listings so I thought while I was at it I would also make scans of selected interior pages of some of the lower condition copies (as the mechanics of scanning magazine pages often downgrades and damages the magazine, the better condition copies will not be scanned) and post them here for all to enjoy. I opted to start a new thread for this to avoid the tedium of posting 1-2 scans in 20-50 different threads (although I may stll post some of these pages in individual threads).

These magazine scans will be posted as they become available. Since scanning an entire magazine can literally take hours, I've decided to just make scans of those celebrity pages that personally interest me, so I apologize if you're favorite ladie(s) aren't represented. In addition, not all the magazines I have will get scanned; copies in high grade condition suffer too much damage and therefore are reduced in $ value when scanning multiple pages, not to mention the amount of time involved to make HQ scans and the fact that many of these pix are now common on the web (as well as here on VEF). However with these issues--especially the early ones--diminishing in availability, I thought having some sort of "public record" of them would be a fair idea.

Most of the pix featured in these mags are somewhat old and the quality can be seriously lacking, especially considering what we're used to in the digital age. In some case I've provided more than one version of a scan made with different visual settings. In other words: dupes are intentional. Furthermore, interior pages usually won't be posted in order but rather alphabetically by celebrity first name (more or less) and in some cases only part of a page will be posted.

I'll shut up now.
