^^ I've downloaded a couple hundred movies as BitTorrents and never had any problems with hacking, harassment or legal threats. I use the BitTorrent client software -- it's simple to download and install.

After downloading a file, I always try to let it "seed" until the share ratio is at least 2:1. Not seeding (leeching) won't get you in any trouble that I'm aware of, but it's considered bad form. It's getting something for free and not giving back anything in return.

Being a peer-to-peer service, BitTorrent downloads are rather catch-as-catch-can. A download of a feature-length film can take as little as an hour or as long as several days, depending on the number of peers and seeders. For a foreign-language film, you may have to find and download an English subtitle file. That's pretty easy to do, though.
