an awkard name
In july 1931 Swallow Sidecars using their coach works and their motor with a chassis made by Standard Motor Company launched a new model with an ad proclaiming "The SS is coming". Through the 30's and early 40's the cars sported an "SS" hood emblem. There even exists a picture of British Royalty sitting in a car with the "SS" logo. Given the unpleasantness with an across the channel foe the company decided to change the name and adopted the name of their best engine as the name of the company thus was born "Jaguar"
