I haven't seen her since 1985, but in my memory she was far chubbier than she is in any of these pics. For sure they look like they *could* be Big Debs - but they don't tally 100% with the images in my memory banks.

My most abiding memory of her was when we went on a Geography Department field trip to Czechoslovakia at Easter 1984. The Iron Curtain was still up back then, Prague wasn't the swinging, cosmopolitan place that it is today (Soviet-era drabness and austerity were everywhere) and the place was pretty much dead by around 9 pm.

So basically, you had to make your own entertainment in the evenings, and with our group that consisted of buying in loads of booze during the day and holding parties in someone's hotel room in the evening. The rooms were spartan but very large and there was plenty of room for all of us, so you can imagine what it was like (there were complaints about us in one hotel we stayed in).

In any case, it was at one of these evening booze-ups, with the cheap Czech lager flowing freely, that Big Debs produced a wad of photos that she and her boyfriend had taken - a mixture of her on her own and some hardcore stuff of the two of them. This was long before the digital era, so fuck knows where they got them developed (some may have been Polaroids, I can't quite recall). Anyway, the point is that Debs was just passing them around and showing them to us (lecturers and all!) as if they were her holiday snaps. Except that instead of comments like "this is the view of the sea front", it was "we had a hell of a job positioning the camera for this shot". Totally blase about it all, and didn't give a toss.

Naturally, she forged quite a reputation for herself on that trip!

After we returned, word got out that she was appearing as a "reader's wife" in the next issue of some top-shelf mag (maybe Fiesta or Escort, can't remember which). Naturally there was a run on it, and the local newsagents were soon cleaned out. I seem to recall the accompanying caption being "Tit men will go wobbly over Big Debs from Manchester" - classic!!

No idea where she is now or what she's doing though. And Chippy2 - if you are indeed who you say you are, then maybe you'd like to share some of your old Polaroids with the group?
Hi,

I remember the trip you refer to. I was in the year below so didn,t get to go.

I don,t have any of the pics. I think deb kept them all. This is why i started the thread.

Cheers
