The M14 rifle was accepted by the US in 1959. If you fired an US WWI rifle, it would have likely been a 1903 Springfield or a 1917 Enfield.

22LR is a caliber lots of people stockpile. Preppers tend to believe that it will be a currency when the SHTF. Although the prices of ammo have fallen a bit, 22LR still seems to cost 10 cents or more per round. I don't really shoot it or stockpile it and my ancient memories of it costing less than 3 cents a round at retail outlets will probably never reoccur.

The law of supply and demand must be warping ammo costs to a great extent if 22LR costs 10 cents a round and 9mm costs 20 cents a round.
