Let's be fair to poor Mary Ure - the delicate and sensitive actress (as fine-looking a woman to ever emerge from Scotland) was well on her way to mega-stardom when she made the two biggest mistakes of her life: She married John Osborne and then Robert Shaw. They both treated this lovely fragile beauty like absolute shit - between them they knocked her up six times.
Shaw made his first wife give up acting because he couldn't take the competiton - he tried the same with Mary Ure, but she refused.
But his unrelenting bullying eventually broke her and she took her own life - the coroners' verdict was accidental overdose, but everyone who knew them knew it was suicide.
