I found a couple of tweaks to help speed up FireFox.

This one is helpful if you like to surf using multiple open tabs.
It involves activating and configuring pipelining.
Pipelining allows you to have multiple connections to multiple sites simultaneously.

*Please note that not all sites allow pipelining, however, this won't cause browser problems.

1: Enter about:config into the FireFox address bar
2: Scroll to the network.http section
3: Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to 30
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

FireFox typically waits until a certain percentage of a page arrives before displaying it.
Make this change to have it display information as it arrives.

1: Right-click anywhere on the about:config page.
2: select New-> Integer.
3: Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay”
4: set its value to “0″.
